Portuguese Internet Service Providers (ISP)
I'm in the process of moving from my parents house to a flat of my own. One of the task that needs to be done is connecting my new home to the internet.. and it's a pain to find a good offer.
I don't watch TV. I already have a mobile phone that fill my needs for voice communications but ISP seam to be eager to make me subscribe one of their two or three services packages (phone or/and TV and Internet). They go as far as to plain lie in order for me to become one of their money suppliers.
Unsettled, upset and tiered I decided that the only way to find the best choice was to dig deep to find the costs associated with each of the ISPs.
Keep in mind that we are talking about a flat that did not have any previous connection, by phone line or by cable TV, so I took into account the costs of installation and activation of line or cable and equipment needed for internet access (the only service I am interested in).
I can not post commercial names here (this is a University site) but let's just say that there is a huge dissimilarity between prices. Projecting the cost, with similar bandwidth and traffic limits but different ISP, during one year and the difference of cost reach the 385€ (more than one euro every day of the year). For four years it's almost 2000€ (different from 385 times 4 due to the installation and activiation costs payed during the first year). That's quite a sum of money.
For people in a situation similar to this my advice is: keep away from cable providers. The price of installing the phone line is recovered quite fast. Also, small ISP usually have better prices. If you are lucky to be in a area that is covered by one then check their prices.
